Circuit/Trek in the Hoggar Massif


Circuit / Trek (walk of 10 to 15 km/day, with a total of about 100 km over 7 days) in the heart of the Atakor (Ahaggar Massif, the Hoggar) passing through Assekrem and Mount Tahat (highest peak in Algeria, 3003 meters above sea level) in Tamanrasset.

Day 1 :

Departure from Algiers airport to Tamanrasset, usually arriving at night. Welcome and reception by the Tuareg team at Tamanrasset-Aguemar airport, Hadj Bey Akhamok. Set off towards the lodge or directly settle in the bivouac.

Day 2 :

After breakfast, resume the journey towards Afilal and towards the Azegui wadi to set up the bivouac there.

Day 3 :

After breakfast, resume the route to continue our circuit towards Amezrougue to discover and admire the rock paintings. Then, head to Assekrem to set up our bivouac and admire the sunset. Dinner and evening around the fire with a good Tuareg tea.


Day 4 :

At dawn, for those who wish, the possibility to watch the sunrise from the summit of Assekrem. Upon returning from this magical natural spectacle, breakfast will be served. We will resume our itinerary to head towards Mount Tahat and set up camp.

Day 5 :

After breakfast, we will begin the ascent of Mount Tahat, then the descent will be made gradually back to the campsite. Dinner and evening around the fire.

Day 6 :

After breakfast, we will head towards the mythical summit of Ilamane and the Ilamane valley, where we can discover the first mosque in the Tamanrasset region, which is over 200 years old. Following this curious discovery, we will arrive at the Ilamane wadi to set up our camp.

Day 7 :

After breakfast, we will head towards Tamanrasset with a detour to Taguemart, which is an open-air museum with rock art, paintings, and engravings dating back more than 6,000 years. We will resume our itinerary for a return to Tamanrasset. In the afternoon, a shower will be more than welcome, and then it will be possible to stroll through the large Tafssit souk (African market) where you can buy souvenirs. In the evening, dinner will be served, followed by departure for the airport late in the evening for the return to Algiers.
